Need a Treatment for Acid Reflux? Try These Full Proof Cures.
Acid reflux is painful and annoying, but if it gets too out of control, you could be suffering from gastroesophageal reflux disease, also known as GERD. If you believe that you are suffering from GERD you should get in touch with your doctor. Otherwise, try some of these acid reflux treatments that you can try at home.
First learn some ways to prevent acid reflux.
The best treatment is prevention, so try to prevent your acid reflux if possible. Don’t smoke, maintain a healthy weight, avoid wearing tight clothing or belts, try eating several small meals throughout the day instead of large ones, and avoid eating at least two to three hours before bedtime. You may also want to consider elevating the head of your bed by four to six inches if you have severe nighttime acid reflux. Don’t worry if you already have acid reflux. There are plenty of acid reflux treatments.
Then try these remedies.
Antacids, such as Tums, Rolaids, and Alka-Seltzer neutralize the acid in your stomach, therefore reducing the burning sensation that you feel. Be careful, though, because if you overuse antacids you could end up with other gastrointestinal problems, such as diarrhea and constipation. Choosing an antacid that contains both magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide can help to keep these side effects at bay.
If antacids don’t help, try an H2 Blocker, such as Pepsid AC or Zantac. These medications are available over the counter and help your body to reduce its acid production. These medications take a little bit longer to work than antacids, but they tend to have a longer impact on the acid reflux.
If H2 Blockers aren’t helpful, proton pump inhibitors, such as Prilosec, also available over the counter, may be useful. Proton pump inhibitors work in a very similar fashion as H2 Blockers, but sometimes proton pump inhibitors work for some people when H2 Blockers don’t.
